Holly Health stories: Beverley's back pocket personal trainer

November 24, 2022

We recently sat down with Beverley, who has been using Holly Health since September 2022. Having struggled with staying regularly active, and always looking for new ways to positively influence her health, she discovered Holly Health.

Beverley first heard about Holly Health from others at a local community group she attends. Excited about the potential of having her own personal ‘digital health coach’, she downloaded the app and is now a daily user. These are her experiences of using the app over the last two months.

What parts of your life did you feel you needed the most support before using Holly Health?

Beverley: Well, I knew I wanted some extra support to get healthier and fitter – to know the right kind of exercises to do, and which food would be the most nourishing for me to eat. I’m eating my fruit, and cutting down on a few things, but I’m always looking for some extra encouragement to keep me on track. I’ve got a bit of a sweet tooth, so before Holly Health I wanted support in learning about some healthier alternatives.

What are the key aspects of your health that you feel have improved since using Holly Health?

Beverley: By having the Holly app, it really has pushed me to go out of my comfort zone and achieve things I didn’t think I was capable of. It has also really helped my mood swings – I now feel like a happy-go-lucky person, smiling all the time! Overall, I’m really feeling great within myself. Some of the main things that Holly Health has helped me with is maintaining regular exercise, in fact as each day goes by, I look forward to what the exercises are going to be the next day. I’ve been walking my three miles, and practicing lots of aerobic exercises. That has really helped me to make it a habit as it’s just like having a personal trainer in your pocket.

What are some of your favourite features on the Holly Health app?

Beverley: Of course I love all the exercise videos – I don’t even have a particular favourite, I just enjoy them all. I also really enjoy being able to track my progress because the Holly bird is really encouraging and tells you things like “you’re doing great” and “fantastic!” which I find helps keep my spirits high. The app has also helped me to incorporate some top tips into my day, like making a mental note of how I’m feeling on a good day, so that I can come back to those positive emotions on a bit of a sad day.

What advice would you give to someone else wanting to make healthy lifestyle changes like you?

Beverley: If somebody perhaps didn’t have the healthiest eating habits, or wanted to improve their physical and mental health, I would definitely recommend downloading the Holly Health app. It’s great at providing a range of meals and tasty foods like fish and lamb, with lots of vegetables, and it encourages you to have a greater variety in your diet. And, I think it's really important that it’s not a diet  – there is no calorie counting or anything that can cause people to have an unhealthy relationship with food. I would love for other people to try the app and have the same amazing experiences that I have had.
